Mahila Samity Primary School

Dhaka, Bangladesh

The word Shikkha Shokti is a Bengali word meaning “Education is Strength.” The project is expected to have tenure of three years initially and will provide primary education for 200 children. Since these children come from relatively poor families, they are immensely prone to malnutrition and thus, the project will provide these children with regular and healthy food supplies. The project will also provide salary support to the teachers and administrative staff of the school and will help to further increase the standard of education provided by the school. Foundation for Freedom will continue supporting Shikkha Shokti for three consecutive years. The yearly applied amount is BDT.9,80,000.00 which is USD 14,202.

The primary school of Bangladesh Mahila Samity (BMS) at Bailey Rd. consists of a single building of its own. It has experienced teachers, who are performing their duties with a social service attitude. BMS supplies books annually with 50% financial support to all the students. Since 1999 BMS, with the help of Community Hospital, maintains a health-card system for the students. The members of BMS, as well as the civil society, sponsors the monthly dues of the chronic poor students to continue their education.
