Dayarampur School

Dayarampur School, Kulpi District, West Bengal

The Dayarampur School is located in an underdeveloped part of Kulpi, an economically deprived district of West Bengal. The inhabitants are mostly agricultural and day laborers or hired hands, with very low literacy rate. At present the Dayarampur School is attended by 163 students, 54% of which are female, aged from 5 to 13 years.

Due to poor funding from the Government, local schools are built inadequately with poor infrastructure. The absence of basic facilities results in a high drop out rate and a lack of toilet facilities leads to the avoidance of school by girls.

With funding provided by Foundation for Freedom, the school has been completely renovated structurally and new furniture and school uniforms provided. The renovated school building, with functioning facilities, has created an environment conducive to learning and better attendance.

The children are now happy to continue their studies.
